The news website Mobile Time and the company Opinion Box conducted a survey of 2,033 people over the age of 16 in Brazil on their use of apps. Among the points investigated were the population's online sports betting habits.

The survey revealed that 17% of respondents had bet on apps in the last 12 months. Considering only men, this percentage reaches 21%, while among women it drops to 14%.

By age, the percentages are as follows:

  • 16 to 29 years old: 23% of respondents have placed a bet in the last 12 months.
  • 30 to 49 years old: 18% of respondents have placed a bet in the last 12 months.
  • Over 50 years old: 10% of respondents have placed a bet in the last 12 months.

In terms of social classes, the survey revealed that:

  • 20% of people in classes D and E have gambled in the last 12 months.
  • 16% of people in class C have gambled in the last 12 months.
  • 16% of people in classes A and B have gambled in the last 12 months.

Respondents were also asked about the most popular betting apps. Based on the 342 respondents who had wagered money in the past 12 months, Bet365 was mentioned by 24%.

This was followed by Betano (17%), Sportingbet (8%), Blaze (6%), Esportes da Sorte (4%), Pixbet (4%) and Betnacional (3%). Other bookmakers had lower percentages, which together amount to 34%.

"Half of bettors acknowledge that they have lost more money than they have won on betting apps, while 28% say they have won and 22% report that they have neither won nor lost. Recognition of loss is higher among women (53%), 30-49-year-olds (54%), and those in class C (57%)," as stated in the analysis.

The questionnaires were filled out online in March 2024. The complete survey can be accessed at this link.
