Macau experienced a bustling Easter holiday weekend, with over 330,000 visitor arrivals recorded during the first three days of the festive period, according to data from the Public Security Police Force.

Saturday marked the peak of activity, with an influx of 122,235 visitors, contributing to the overall surge in tourism during the long weekend.

Anticipating heightened travel activity, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) had earlier projected an increase in arrivals, particularly from Hong Kong. Their forecast aimed for a daily average of 100,000 tourists throughout the Easter holiday period.

Statistics released on Monday revealed that the first day of the Easter holidays saw 105,169 visitor arrivals, followed by a substantial increase to 122,235 arrivals on Saturday, and about 103,000 on Sunday.

The average daily number of arrivals from Friday to Sunday surpassed 110,000, indicative of the robust tourism activity in Macau during this period. The police data did not provide specific details regarding the source markets of inbound visitors.

This surge in visitor arrivals adds to the positive trend observed in Macau's tourism sector this year. In February, arrivals witnessed a notable 15% month-on-month increase, totaling 3,293,564 visitors for the month. This figure translated to an average of 113,571 arrivals per day. February's tally included the Chinese New Year holiday, which saw a post-pandemic single-day high of 217,451 arrivals.

The data also highlighted key entry points for visitors. The Border Gate, serving as the primary inland crossing between Macau and Zhuhai in Guangdong province, emerged as the busiest checkpoint. It facilitated a total of 106,296 visitor arrivals during the Easter weekend. Following closely behind was the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge crossing, which recorded an aggregate of 105,402 visitor arrivals during the period.
