Rubén Solórzano, general manager of Affiliated Marketing Group (AMG) and one of the organizers of the Peru Gaming Show (PGS), discussed the future of the Peruvian market after the publication of the regulations that will govern the online sector, highlighting the brands and companies that will arrive to settle in this jurisdiction.

In an interview with Yogonet, Solórzano affirmed that the next edition of PGS will take into account this context and that "it is preparing to attract the brands of the gaming world aligned to this current panorama and to be the gaming reference in the region."

What is the balance of 2023 for Affiliated Marketing Group, as organizers of the Peru Gaming Show?

After having passed the ravages of the pandemic, in 2023 the gaming sector showed great recovery at the regional level, especially in the sports betting and online gaming verticals, leading to greater dynamism in the industry. In this context, AMG SAC, organizer of the PGS fair, focused its efforts on the main event in June and, from there, looked at other options.

As a result, 2023 was very good for AMG: the 21st edition of PGS broke all records, more than 6,000 visitors from all over the world, and 75 brands among exhibitors and sponsors were present. PGS maintained its leadership in Latin America as an event organizer for the gaming industry.

What are the expectations for 2024 regarding the gambling sector in Peru?

Peru was a pioneer in terms of formalization of the sector after the law regulating casino games and slot machines was approved in June 1999, with the law for remote gaming still pending. In August 2022, the law for remote sports betting and online games was approved and, in October 2023, Mincetur approved the regulations.

After the approval of all these regulations, Peru managed to regulate and formalize the gaming sector activity integrally, opening new possibilities and investment alternatives. Peru is a mature market that will surely be of great interest to brands and companies seeking to expand by entering regulated markets.

In the particular case of the Peru Gaming Show, what is your main expectation regarding next year's event?

What is being observed in the markets, post-pandemic, is a vertiginous advance of sports betting and online games, verticals that try to enter potential markets with innovative platforms that make the player an active participant to achieve not only an economic benefit but, above all, entertainment.

Therefore, PGS is preparing to attract the brands of the gaming world aligned with this current scenario and to be the gaming reference in the region. PGS 2024, to be held on June 12 and 13, will have an extraordinary framework, with a first-class expo and the presentation of conferences where topics of interest for the gaming players will be addressed. The presence of top-level speakers and the proven experience in the sector guarantee the knowledge to be added.

What news or event in the gaming industry do you think was the most important of the year that is ending and why?

A fact to highlight is that the different jurisdictions in the region are taking regulation and formalization very seriously. Peru has already approved the regulation, after having a law since 2022. Brazil and Chile are currently in the midst of discussions at the political level to pass the proposed laws to the Executive for their approval. Likewise, Uruguay and Paraguay have initiated discussions for regulation that will surely come to fruition, with a law that will benefit the sector and the country's economy.

The year 2024 will begin with the implementation of the law that will govern the online sector in Peru, how do you think this process will develop?

In February 2024 the law will come into force. After the regulation has been approved, many companies and brands are looking for advice to be clear about the regulation with the sole purpose of establishing themselves in Peru and being part of the market which, as we have already mentioned, has a lot of potential.

The Peruvian market has proven to be very active in this industry. Its potential in remote gaming will be shown as time goes by after operators and suppliers offer the player new and innovative products and services that capture the player's attention and creativity.
