A new feature gives players in select US jurisdictions another chance to match their Powerball numbers in a separate drawing with a top cash prize of $10M. The Double Play will be offered in 13 lottery jurisdictions. This drawing will be held after every Powerball drawing on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

POWERBALL announced Friday a new Monday drawing will join the weekly lineup of Powerball drawings currently held on Wednesday and Saturday. A new add-on feature called Double Play will give players in select jurisdictions another chance to match their Powerball numbers in a separate drawing with a top cash prize of $10 million.

The first Double Play drawing was held after the Powerball drawing on Monday, August 23.

The Powerball Product Group anticipated in a press release that the addition of the Monday Powerball drawing will result in “larger, faster-growing jackpots”, as it also expects to see “an increase in the number of cash prizes and jackpots awarded on an annual basis”. However, it explicitly said that “a third drawing will not change the Powerball game odds or set cash prizes”.

Players will continue to choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. The Power Play add-on feature will also be available for an additional $1 per play to multiply non-jackpot prizes, and will only apply to prizes won in the Powerball drawing.

All 48 U.S. lotteries will sell tickets for the Powerball drawing on Monday nights.

The Double Play add-on feature will be offered in 13 lottery jurisdictions, and players will have the option to add the feature to their ticket for an additional $1 per play. This drawing will be held after every Powerball drawing on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Players will play the same set of numbers in both drawings.

Powerball tickets that include the Double Play feature will be eligible to win prizes in both drawings.

Players can watch the Monday Powerball drawings and Double Play drawings live online at Powerball.com with a new live stream feature that launched earlier this summer. The Monday Powerball drawings will also be broadcast live by participating television stations at 10:59 p.m. ET.

At launch, Double Play will be available for purchase in the following jurisdictions:

  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Indiana
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • Missouri
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Puerto Rico
  • South Carolina
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee
  • Washington

Additional lotteries may choose to offer Double Play at a later date.

In an official press release, May Scheve Reardon, Powerball Product Group Chair and Missouri Lottery Executive Director spoke about this new drawing and said: “This is the first time in Powerball’s 29-year history that drawings will be offered three nights a week. Players will still have the same odds and base ticket price, just more chances to get into the game.”

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold. Drawings are broadcast live every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. Powerball drawings are also live streamed online at Powerball.com.
