This week, Meadowlands Racetrack announced the opening of its legalized sports betting service has been re-scheduled to open on July 14, one day sooner than originally announced.
The racetrack's operator, Jeff Gural, told reporters last month that July 15 would be the first day of legal sports betting at the Meadowlands. But on Monday, the track's general manager, Jason Settlemoir, confirmed that the new service will begin on July 14. "The timing is much better and in correlation with one of our biggest race days, the Meadowlands Pace," Settlemoir said.
The Victory Sports Bar and Club, where patrons will place their bets, is set to open to "dignitaries" at 9:30 a.m. After a series of speeches, those special guests will have the honor of placing the first legal sports wagers at the Meadowlands track.
At 11 a.m., the club will open to the public, allowing wagers on professional and college sports, said Keith Wall, an international representative of the online gambling company Betfair.
Betfair has partnered with the Meadowlands track, offering its own in-house odds and other services.
