Denmark’s gambling market enjoyed another period of growth in 2017, with lotteries the major contributor to a licensed GGR total of USD 1.52 b.
The Danish Gambling Authority’s annual report showed that the overall GGR figure was up by 0,04 b from the previous year, with revenues from lotteries totalling USD 0.51 bn and betting USD 0,38 m.
In the past six years, the report stated, total annual GGR in Denmark grew 22.9 per cent, or USD 0.44 b.
The online casino market grew to be worth USD 0,30 in 2017, up from a USD 0.14 b total in 2012, while revenues from land-based casinos rose to USD 60 m in 2012 to USD 620 m in 2017.
GGR from gaming machines fell from USD 24,02 m in 2012 to USD 19,22 m last year.
Much of the growth stems from operators active in the Danish market before 2012, though only eligible for a Danish licence since that time. Prior to partial liberalisation, only the primarily state-owned Danske Spil A/S was licensed to offer betting in Denmark.
