As detailed in a recent press release, the committee will follow up fraud reports, addressing allegations of rigging and corruption in professional soccer.
With this aim in mind, an agreement was signed between Attorney General Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira, the President of Colombia's First Soccer League (or Dimayor, for the acronym in Spanish) Jorge Fernando Perdomo, and an official from the Colombian Association for Professional Soccer (Acolfutpro) Luis Alberto García. The primary goal of the committee will be protecting Colombian soccer from illegal betting and irregularities that lead to the rigging of matches.
From now on, this committee will be operate 24/7 as part of the structural organization of Dimayor and Acolfutpro. The committee will be permanently in touch with the Attorney General Office so that instance of corruption are hastily received and acted upon, implementing protection measures as appropriate to each particular case.
Parallelly, the agreement also comprises a few items which, apart from means towards tackling fraud, can be seen as means in themselves. Firstly, tgranting in-depth training to the police forces in charge of addressing fraud, enabling a more efficient recognition of sports manipulation, organised crime and anti-corruption measures. Secondly, training the Security and Integrity Coordination officers to tackle racism, xenophobia, intolerance, homophobia and other forms of violence.
