The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has confirmed that 666Bet is to cease operations in the UK market after it was revealed that parent company Metro Play is to be wound up.

666Bet has not been operational in the UK since March when both the online gaming operator and Metro Play had their licenses suspended by the UKGC .

Customers were unable to access their accounts and withdraw funds, although payment processor Skrill was later drafted in to assist with the withdrawal process.

The amounts owed to customers ranged from smaller figures up to the thousands. However, doubts were raised last month over the future of both brands after the UKGC revealed that the repayment process had stopped due to a lack of funds.

It has now been confirmed that despite initial hopes of relaunching its services in the UK, the UKGC has confirmed that Metro Play it to be wound up, which in turn will halt 666Bet from reopening its offering.

Metro Play will be compulsorily wound up following an Order of the Court of Alderney dated July 2.

“As the company is being liquidated, under section 114 (2) (b) of the Gambling Act 2005, Metro Play Limited’s operating licence has lapsed. They are no longer licensed to provide facilities for gambling in Great Britain.”, the UKGC said in a statement.

The UKGC also noted that it does not know whether the winding up order will have any impact on the withdrawal process for customers.
