“I know what we’re planning on doing is just going up and being a good partner to the Kansas Crossing sponsors and to answer any questions about our infrastructure, ability to provide services,” said Daron Hall, Pittsburg city manager, who will attend with other city officials. “But hopefully we’ll be a fly on the wall sitting back watching.”
The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission will meet at 9 a.m. today in Topeka to either approve or deny Kansas Crossing’s application after conducting a contract review on the investors and partners.
Hall said there’s still some bad information being passed around and that they have replied to every concern raised about the property in which the casino will be built on — located at the northwest corner of U.S. 69 and 400 — but they will there in force to answer in kind should the commission have further questions.
County Counselor Jim Emerson will attend the meeting to represent Crawford County — the county commissioners can’t make it because of personal reasons.
“I’m glad to be representing the county,” Emerson said. “I’m kind of taking the place of Commissioner (Carl) Wood and I’ll represent the county as best as I can.”
Emerson said he’s hopeful there will be a final decision regarding the background check and for Kansas Crossing as a whole.
“I’m not sure what to expect this time. I’m aware of a letter from Cherokee County that’s been presented and I’m not sure where that will go tomorrow,” Emerson said.
After the commission reviews the lottery contract, Kansas Crossing will get to give a presentation and public comments will be allowed after the presentation. The commission will then go into executive session and after that will make a decision on the background check and the Kansas Crossing Contract.
