Amaya-owned online gaming brand PokerStars has been awarded a provisional license to begin offering internet sports betting and slots games to players in the regulated Spanish market.

PokerStars already holds licenses to provide online poker and casino table games in the country, but has now acquired the new license from Spanish regulator the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) to further expand its services.

The operator will include the provision of sports betting, with the new service having recently launched in the UK. PokerStars will now be able to begin offering similar services to players in Spain in the near future.

Gino Appiotti, president of Southern European operations for PokerStars, said: “We’re very pleased to receive provisional licenses to expand our games offering on PokerStars in Spain.

“Our operation of online poker, live poker and now online casino shows that players trust us to deliver a variety of games in a fun and exciting way.

“We look forward to building on this by launching games under these new licenses.”
