Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev has signed a new law that will ban gambling, betting and bookmakers in the Central Asian nation.

The law ‘On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts’ was first adopted by Parliament on February 25 and has now been signed.

The main aim of the new law is to ban gambling as well as the organization of gambling and related establishments such as betting offices and companies, in addition to totalisers.

According to the WorldBulletin.com website, the new law states: “The law eliminates the basis for the creation of conditions of adverse impact on the moral and mental state of people who are fond of gambling, especially the younger generation of Kyrgyzstan.

“It is aimed at reducing the number of financial offences, reducing the crime situation in the country, the prevention of social problems caused by gambling minors and vulnerable segments of the population.”

The law will come into force 15 days after its official publication.
