Part of an ambitious expansion strategy, this effort will be Harrah’s first foray into the online poker market. Mitch Garber, current CEO of Harrah’s Interactive recently said, “There can be no more exciting place to be trying to move online from offline than Harrah’s. I had run a large online gaming company. The next logical challenge was to help a large established offline gaming company move online.”
The deal allows Harrah’s to establish a presence in online poker, while waiting for the US government to legalize the industry. Playdom’s Poker Palace game already is enjoyed by nearly 500,000 monthly users and 60,000 daily users. There will be a variety of poker games offered, and it will be available on MySpace as well as Facebook. Players will have the ability to win WSOP products, Las Vegas trips and seats at WSOP events.
Seeing an opening into the vast world of online poker, Harrah’s is looking to use its widely recognized WSOP brand to facilitate its move to the Internet. Players will undoubtedly see more of the popular WSOP logo as Harrah’s and Playdom make the new WSOP games available for Facebook and MySpace.
