Atlantic City casinos cut back on freebies amid revenue slump

(US).- Figures from the state Casino Control Commission show Atlantic City's 11 casinos cut back on the freebies they hand out to keep gamblers coming back by 12.4 % in March as the economy continued to suffer.

For the year, free hotel rooms, meals and show tickets are down more than 9 %.

Some casinos made a conscious choice to cut back on comps when business worsened. These include the three Trump casinos, which are in bankruptcy court, and Resorts Atlantic City, which is fighting off a foreclosure bid by its lender.

Atlantic City is in the third year of a revenue slump that began when slots parlors opened in the Philadelphia suburbs in late December 2006, cutting into its customer base.
