According to a report in Crain's Manchester Business, Paul Gregg was in the city to discuss plans for the site, which had originally been earmarked for the British first super-casino. It is understood that a casino would form part of a large entertainment, retail and hotel complex.
Apollo Resorts and Leisure holds a 40 % stake in Apollo Casino Resorts, while the remaining share is owned by one of Europe's largest casino operators, Casinos Austria International. The company states that it plans to invest more than £100m in the UK leisure market by developing casino, bar, nightclub and other entertainment facilities.
New East Manchester, the organization overseeing the regeneration of the area, is expected to announce finalized plans for the site over the coming months. In January, Eddie Smith, the organization's CEO, said: "The scale of the development planned is anticipated to be very significant, with investment of hundreds of millions of pounds, bringing the potential for thousands of new jobs."
However, the organization was unable to comment on whether Apollo is involved in the project. A spokesperson for Manchester City Council said: "We are still evaluating proposals and we will make a statement when this work has been completed." Apollo meanwhile, was unable to comment at this stage.
