hat do you expect to see at FADJA this year?
We are excited to participate on the show, as it has been a steady progress for the last couple of years. This year we'll bring the long anticipated Royal Derby horse-racing machine, which will for sure be the centerpiece of the exhibition. Although it's not really a premiere for the Colombian market -for we already have some units in Bogota performing above expectations-, it will still be the novelty for many visitors. The imposing setup will be paired with 2 roulettes from our product lineup, a compact series R6 and the latest evolution of the R8.
What is it that makes the Colombian market so attractive and thriving? What are your best performing products or lines in the country?
The roulette R8 is still by far our most successful product, which testifies the popularity of the roulette game in Latin America, especially in Colombia. The numbers are steadily rising, and we are gradually introducing other lines to the country. The Royal Derby is another product that seems to have great impact on the players, since it combines all of the things they love in gaming. The first two units are doing really good and there is a lot of interest from the operators.
"Many Colombian players say they feel cheated on online casinos"
Both operators and gaming companies often refer to Colombia as one of LatAm's ripest markets for investment, due to its stability and growth. However, over the past days, several operators have shown concerns about the possible legalization of gambling in Brazil. Will there still be business potential in Colombia if Brazil finally legalizes gambling?
Of course. The legalization of the gaming in Brazil will have only marginal effect on the Colombian market, and it will probably be confined to the border regions. The country has a stable gaming market and enthusiastic players, that ensure a business future for the gaming venues. I would even expect both countries to benefit from it, that is when and if Brazil really decides to go through with the project.
How would you assess the current state of online gambling in Colombia? When will we see full adoption of this activity throughout LatAm?
I would say that it is in line with all of the similar markets, it's difficult to regulate and monitor properly, but I feel that the majority of Colombian players still prefer the atmosphere and the thrill of a real venue. Many of them say that they feel cheated on online casinos. However, as already seen at the London show, Alfastreet is preparing an on-line gaming platform, connected to the real venues, with live camera feeds and secure connectivity, that eliminates that risk.
"There's still margin of growth for the market and a lot of potential for new technologies"
Are you undertaking any new projects in the country you'd like to share with our readers?
The company has invested a lot of resources into this market and has got some really good results in return, therefore we'll proceed with the same pace, introducing some new equipment, starting with the Multigame I.Q. cabinet, a stand alone unit with a selection of virtual table games, that has shown good results in similar markets. We believe that there's still margin of growth for the market and a lot of potential for new technologies.
