The Betclic Everest online gambling group agreed to comply, reportedly paying euro 80.000 (USD 90M) towards fines imposed by the Belgian authorities on its local players.

The company has consequently been removed from the blacklist of non-compliant operators maintained by the BGC, which noted that Betclic had exhibited the proper respect for its authority and Belgian law, and added a warning that it would pursue other companies who conduct unlicensed operations.

Betclic first appeared on the blacklist back in 2012, and that was followed by the confiscation of Euro 600,000 of Betclic money destined for Belgian online punters. The Commission subsequently ramped up the pressure by imposing fines of up to Euro 200 on scores of Belgian players patronising Betclic’s site.

In order to comply with the Belgian requirement that online operators have a local partner, Betclic has reportedly entered negotiations with the Circus Group, which could lead to the launch of a Belgian-licensed Betclic website by year’s end.
