ocated on the third floor of the largest urban shopping mall in Europe, the Westfield super casino is spread out over 6,038 sqm looking out over the Olympic park.
Aspers Casino at Westfield Stratford City will dwarf any other casino currently operating in London. The new gambling mecca will feature 40 gaming tables, 150 slot machines, 92 electronic terminals and a 150-seat poker room. It is the first casino to open under the large casino license.
Aspers Casino at Westfield Stratford City is hoping to attract the non-gambling crowds with an 80-seat restaurant, a luxury cocktail bar loftily named Sky Bar and the ubiquitous Sports Bar (to be open and serving drinks 24/7). “The casino will be the icing on the cake for our leisure and entertainment offer at Westfield Stratford City,” said Michael Gutman, managing director of Westfield in the UK/Europe and New Markets.
“We believe the entertainment and retail offer we have created for Westfield Stratford City will prove to be a real game-changer for consumers on the Eastern side of the capital. This will be the most exciting and comprehensive lifestyle and leisure space that Westfield has created following on from the huge appeal we have generated in the indoor and outdoor entertainment areas at Westfield London.”
The contract for the “round the clock” gambling complex was awarded by Newham Council to luxury casino operator Aspers back in March. The company already has casinos in Newcastle, Northampton and Swansea. Aspers says it prides itself on its contemporary style gamble halls, which it describes as an alternative to the glitzy American-style casinos.
The opening of the Westfield Stratford City super casino has created as estimated 440 new jobs to complement the 8,500 permanent positions created by the opening of Westfield Stratford City back in September.
Aspinall said Aspers would be looking to change the way gaming was viewed in the UK by creating an environment where gambling is just a part of the picture. “This is a different market environment where people enjoy the bars and restaurant as much as the gaming,” said John Burton of Westfield Stratford City. “If anybody ever doubted we could deliver all of the leisure and entertainment and retail together people wanted here they will have to think again,” Burton said.
Damian Aspinall, Chairman of Aspers called the super casino “the most exciting project to date.”
