Kansas gets 3 proposals for casino near Wichita

(US).- Three groups have submitted applications to develop a state-owned casino in south-central Kansas. The Kansas Lottery says it received the applications for the Sumner County casino south of Wichita by yesterday's deadline.

Peninsula Gaming Partners proposes its so-called Kansas Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center at the Kansas Turnpike's Mulvane exit. Global Gaming wants to build a casino at the Wellington exit. Harrah's Sumner Investment proposed two sites in or near Mulvane for its Harrah's Kansas casino.

The lottery has until October 20 to review the applications and negotiate contracts. The contracts are then sent to the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board. The Kansas Racing & Gaming Commission makes the final decision.

Two previous efforts to build a casino in Sumner County were derailed when developers backed out, citing economic conditions.
