In Mexico, illegal casinos generate almost us$ 150 million a year

(Mexico).- Illegal casinos and gambling venues in Mexico have winnings of more than us$ 146,295,077 a year, according to figures released by the Association of Games of Chance Licensees (APJS).

There are 25 to 30 casinos of this kind in the country, although the organization assures that the exceptions are the Federal District and the State of Mexico, where there is not registered any activity of this type.

In a press conference, the president of APJS, Alfonso Pérez Lizaur, commented that the industry established generated a similar quantity as contributor.

The director said that, on top of generic taxes as ISR and IETU, the entertainment sector pays federal and regional participations and, in some cases, local taxes. From 2009, it also started paying an additional tax (Special Tax on Production and Services - IEPS-) of 20%, especially designed for the sector.
