According to Monterrey Councillor, Pedro Mendoza

Opposition to the public consultation on casinos in Mexico

(Mexico).- After the decision to put to public vote the permanence of casinos within the Plan of Local Development, different voices have expressed their opinions, such as Monterrey Councillor, Pedro Mendoza, who was against this proposal.

He also assured that several councillors of the party Acción Nacional do not agree with the measure, however, he preferred to omit their names, saying that the most adequate thing would be that each one did it on their own.

Mendoza remarked that the ideal is that this point of view would be unified by all the members of the faction, and this way, they could make an opposition faction with regards to such proposal.

"No, unfortunately we are not unified in this aspect or point of view, regarding gambling, games of chance, alcohol, casinos, public debt. Some of us are against it, and we would like to unify this criteria to oppose to it; this public consultation on the casino and draws issue is not correct”, he added.

The same way, he considered that this could be positive if a true “transparence” in the handling of this public consultation would happen, a situation that was, in his opinion, difficult to achieve because it will not count with the participation of the 100% of the citizens.
