PENN Entertainment has been approved by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis (AGLC) to operate its mobile sports betting and iCasino platform, theScore Bet, in Alberta.

"We're pleased to be among the first private, regulated operators to receive approval to offer online gaming in Alberta," said Adam Kates, Vice President, Compliance, PENN Interactive. "Our team has been hard at work in anticipation of launching theScore Bet, and we look forward to bringing our premium sports betting and iCasino experience to Albertans on day one."

Currently available in 20 U.S. states and Ontario, Canada, theScore Bet platform offers a wide range of pregame and in-play betting options, along with secure transactions and daily promotions. The service is also integrated with PENN’s flagship theScore media app, enabling users to access sports content and betting features within a single ecosystem.

In addition to sports wagering, the platform includes iCasino offerings in five jurisdictions, featuring slot games, table games, and live dealer experiences.

PENN also emphasized its commitment to responsible gaming, noting that theScore Bet is accredited under the RG Check program.

PENN CEO and President Jay Snowden first announced the Alberta expansion on the company's Thursday Q1 earnings call with investors.

"We're continuing to see positive trends in Ontario, including year-over-year growth in average MAUs, OSB revenue, and iCasino revenue. These results reflect the strength of theScore Bet brand in Canada and our realigned digital strategy," he said during the call.

The CEO said these positive trends "bode well for the anticipated July 13th launch of regulated iCasino and online sports betting in Alberta," with theScore Bet now approved as a registered iGaming Operator by the AGLC, and pre-registration efforts already launched in the province.

The province is preparing to permit approved operators to offer both online sports betting and online casino gaming under a regulated framework that mirrors Ontario's market. Participation will be limited to individuals aged 21 and above, and the AGLC says it has received interest from more than 50 sites in joining the province's yet-to-launch iGaming scheme.

Alberta began accepting operator registrations in January 2026, with industry projections suggesting the market could mirror the growth trajectory of the Ontario iGaming market over time. The province is increasingly seen as a key destination for international operators seeking expansion in North America.
