The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) board has granted Bede Gaming a conditional one-year supplier licence ahead of Alberta’s regulated online gambling launch later this year.
The iGaming Goods or Services Supplier licence allows the company, part of the German Merkur Group, to offer its platform and services to operators planning to enter Alberta’s soon-to-open iGaming sector.
Bede is among the first licensed providers in the run-up to the province officially opening for business. The development is expected to create new commercial opportunities for the company as the province moves toward full market activation.
The software supplier, which holds SOC 2 certification, said its technology stack, including proprietary products and more than 150 third-party integrations, will enable partners to enter the Alberta market efficiently while supporting long-term growth.
Alberta began accepting operator registrations in January 2026, with industry projections suggesting the market could mirror the growth trajectory of the Ontario iGaming market over time. The province is increasingly seen as a key destination for international operators seeking expansion in North America.
Colin Cole-Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at Bede Gaming, said: “Bede is delighted to receive conditional regulatory approval to work in Alberta, putting us in a great position to support operators with their upcoming expansions in the province.
“We have a longstanding investment in the Canadian iGaming industry, and I’m eager for the exciting opportunities ahead in this new market. As one of the first applicants to be formally recognised by the regulator, Bede offers a truly localised service to its partners, and the fact that we’re SOC 2 certified will allow them to hit the ground running as soon as they’re ready to launch.”
