Construction crews placed the final beam atop the $1 billion Catawba Two Kings Casino on Monday, marking the completion of the building’s structural framework and a major milestone for one of North Carolina’s largest construction projects. With the structure now complete, crews will begin preparing the interior.
For the Catawba Nation, the milestone is historic. “We are witnessing something far greater than a construction process,” Catawba Nation Chief Brian Harris said. “We are witnessing a moment in our people’s history.”

The first phase of the casino, set to open in spring 2026, will include 1,350 slot machines, 22 table games, a restaurant, and a bar, replacing the temporary casino nearby. The full complex, opening in spring 2027, will feature 4,300 slot machines, 100 table games, multiple restaurants and bars, and a hotel.
“This will provide an economic engine that will spur hotels, businesses, and restaurants,” Harris said. Once fully operational, the casino is projected to employ approximately 2,200 people, including both Catawba Nation citizens and local residents.
Despite rainy skies, dozens gathered to witness the topping-off ceremony. During the event, Harris told attendees that the tribe plans to build a second casino, though he didn’t elaborate on the project, reports The Charlotte Observer.
