Rivers Casino Portsmouth is set to expand its footprint with a new $65 million hotel project, marking the next phase of its development in Virginia’s Hampton Roads region.

The casino and its parent company, Rush Street Gaming, plan to break ground on October 15 on The Landing Hotel Portsmouth, an eight-story, 106-room property that will include 32 suites and two “super suites” featuring indoor and outdoor spaces. The venue will also offer a lobby bar and other premium amenities when it opens in early 2027.

The project will be built by S.B. Ballard Construction Company, a Norfolk-based firm that previously served as general contractor for the casino’s main facility, which opened in 2023.

Tim Drehkoff, chief executive of Rush Street Gaming and Rivers Casino Portsmouth, said the expansion reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the area. “We are proud to continue our investment in Portsmouth and to be working again with a local company to expand our offerings for the Hampton Roads community and the Commonwealth of Virginia,” he said.

The new hotel adds to a wave of investment in Virginia’s emerging casino sector, as operators seek to broaden entertainment and hospitality options beyond gaming floors.
