Michigan online gaming revenue climbs to $312.5 million in August

Michigan’s online gaming and sports betting market posted $312.54 million in gross receipts for August, showing a 9.8% increase from July, according to figures released by state regulators.

Internet gaming (iGaming) continued to account for the majority of revenue, generating $263.27 million in August compared with $250.5 million the previous month. Internet sports betting also strengthened, with gross receipts rising to $49.27 million from July’s $34.1 million.

Adjusted gross receipts (AGR), which account for promotional deductions, totaled $281.4 million in August. Of that amount, $247.2 million came from iGaming, representing a 5.1% monthly increase, while $34.2 million came from sports betting, reflecting a 43.1% jump.

On a year-over-year basis, iGaming AGR rose 39.8%, while sports betting AGR was up by $17.9 million compared with August 2024. Sports betting activity also saw momentum in terms of player spending. The statewide internet sports betting handle reached $338.9 million in August, up 19.9% from the $282.7 million recorded in July.

State coffers benefited from the surge in activity, with operators submitting $53.7 million in taxes and payments during the month. Of this total, $51.6 million came from iGaming and $2.1 million from internet sports betting.

Detroit’s three commercial casinos contributed $13.8 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees to the city. That included $13.2 million from iGaming and $561,471 from internet sports betting. Meanwhile, tribal operators reported $6.2 million in payments to their respective governing bodies in August.

Michigan currently authorizes 15 commercial and tribal operators to provide iGaming and internet sports betting. Of those, 14 are active in the iGaming market and 11 in online sports betting.
