MotorCity Casino was the only Detroit property to report year-over-year revenue growth in August 2025, posting $31.2 million, up 1.4% from $30.8 million.
MGM Grand Detroit recorded $51.7 million, a 4% decline from $53.9 million in the same month last year. Hollywood Casino at Greektown reported $22.8 million, down 13% from $26.2 million.
Together, the three casinos reported $106.9 million in total revenue last month, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board. Slots and table games generated $105.7 million of the total, while retail sports betting contributed $1.2 million.
Revenue from slots and table games in August decreased 4.6% compared with August 2024 and slipped 0.3% from July 2025. For the first eight months of the year, slot and table game revenue declined 1.2% from the same period in 2024.
Market share for August was 48% for MGM Grand Detroit, 30% for MotorCity, and 22% for Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
Retail sports betting activity reported a handle of $6.8 million, down 29.7% from $9.6 million in August 2024. Qualified adjusted gross receipts dropped 26.7% year-over-year to $1.2 million, though they rose 20.2% from July 2025.
QAGR by casino was $548,749 for MotorCity, $427,999 for Hollywood Casino at Greektown, and $264,076 for MGM Grand Detroit. The casinos paid $46,903 in state taxes and $57,326 in wagering taxes to the City of Detroit from retail sports betting revenue.
For all gaming categories combined, the three casinos submitted $8.6 million in state gaming taxes in August 2025, compared with $9 million in August 2024. Wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit amounted to $12.6 million.
Fantasy contest operators reported $513,880 in adjusted revenues for July 2025, with $43,166 paid in taxes.
