Michigan’s $20 million streetscape project in Detroit’s Greektown neighborhood is expected to draw more visitors to Penn Entertainment’s Hollywood Casino Greektown, Chief Executive Jay Snowden said.
The state-funded initiative, located on Monroe Street between Randolph Street and Chrysler Drive, will feature wider sidewalks, pavers, outdoor dining, trees, and public art. Construction around the casino is due to be completed by the third quarter of 2025, with the entire project scheduled to finish in spring 2026.
“In Detroit, we expect that the ongoing construction and revitalization of the downtown business corridor adjacent to our Hollywood Greektown Casino will help boost visitation and spend in the Greektown neighborhood and at our property,” Snowden said on a recent earnings call.
Snowden said the improvements would enhance “the pedestrian experience with a more inviting environment, including the ability to host live events and festivals in the neighborhood.”
Penn, which operates both the retail property and an online casino in Michigan, reported year-to-date increases of 28% in retail play and 242% in online play. A standalone app launched earlier this year has helped drive record gross gaming revenue in July in both Michigan and Pennsylvania.
