Detroit casinos post $101 million in June revenue, down from May

Detroit’s three commercial casinos reported $101.04 million in total revenue for June 2025, according to figures released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. While the combined figure remains substantial, it marks a decline from both the previous month and the same period last year.

Slot and table game revenue, which made up the bulk of earnings at $100.38 million, fell 4.0% year-on-year and was down 11% compared to May 2025. From January through June, table and slot revenue was 0.8% lower than the first half of 2024.

Retail sports betting, which brought in $665,435, also showed weakness, with Qualified Adjusted Gross Receipts (QAGR) down 25.1% from June 2024 and 48.1% from the prior month. The combined betting handle totalled $7.2 million.

Among the three properties:

• MGM Grand Detroit led the market with 48% share, earning $48.43 million, a 0.6% year-on-year drop.

• MotorCity Casino followed with $30.63 million, down 2.7%.

• Hollywood Casino at Greektown generated $21.32 million, a sharper 12.5% decline from the prior year.

In retail sports betting:

• MGM Grand reported $275,397 in QAGR.
• MotorCity posted $242,069.
• Greektown came in at $147,969.

The casinos paid $8.1 million in state gaming taxes for the month, down from $8.5 million a year earlier. An additional $11.9 million was paid to the City of Detroit in the form of wagering taxes and development agreement contributions. Retail sports betting added $25,153 to state tax revenue and $30,743 to city coffers.

In May 2025, fantasy contest operators reported $716,927 in adjusted revenues and paid $60,222 in taxes.

Despite ongoing economic uncertainty and seasonal fluctuations, Detroit’s casino sector remains a significant source of tax revenue for the state and city, though signs of softness in both gaming and sports betting segments may warrant close monitoring in the second half of the year.
