Payments will be a major focus at this year’s SBC Summit Malta, with a dedicated Payments Innovation track set for 12 June at the InterContinental Hotel.
The track will bring together payments executives, fintech leaders, and compliance experts to address the biggest challenges and opportunities in payment technology across the betting and iGaming sectors. Key topics include open banking, cryptocurrency, fraud prevention, and KYC.
“Payments are no longer just a backend function. They’re a key strategic pillar for driving engagement, trust, and scalable growth across the industry,” said SBC CEO and Founder, Rasmus Sojmark. "That’s why we’ve introduced the Payments Innovation track: to give operators, suppliers, and payments professionals a focused space to deep-dive into critical trends in this space."
The panel “Open Banking in Europe: The Disruptor Transforming Payments and Affordability” will explore how open banking can improve affordability checks, enable faster transactions, and reduce fraud. The panel will feature Theresia Mallia, Head of Payment Product at Kindred Group; Christian Reinheimer, Director of Payments Product & Technology at LeoVegas; and Sean Spiteri, Head of Payment Solutions at PressEnter Group. The discussion will be moderated by Rachael Kennedy, Editor at Payment Expert.
The workshop “Crypto Myth-Busting and Trends: How to Invest Wisely and Avoid Common Pitfalls” will offer practical advice on digital asset investment and compliance. Speakers include Joseph Borg, Partner at WH Partners; Wesley Ellul, Chief Creative Officer at Quizando; Mark Grech, Founder and CEO of Pyaza; and Sabine Roiss, Founder and CEO of Crypto-Play. The session will focus on risk mitigation, compliance, and strategies for building player trust in crypto payment environments.
Additionally, the panel “Redefining Fraud Prevention” will look at new approaches to AML and fraud control, featuring Piotr Lisak, AML Governance Officer and MLRO at Kindred Group; Sergio Muscat, Founder of Oxygia Consulting; and Greg Papanastasiou, Chief Commercial Officer at Play North.
Moreover, a fireside chat, "Beyond Detection: The Convergence of Fraud & AML in iGaming Risk Management", with Tim De Borle, Chief Operating Officer at Casumo, and Tamas Kadar, CEO of SEON, will show how operators can align fraud and AML strategies to improve compliance and reduce risk.
SBC Summit Malta will also feature tracks on Casino Evolution, Regulation & Compliance, Affiliate Insights, Next-Gen Sports Betting, and the Marketing Playbook, along with hands-on workshops.
