The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has ordered 11 illegal offshore gambling websites to stop operating in the state. These sites were found to be offering unlicensed online gaming to Michigan residents, violating multiple state laws.
The websites ordered to halt in Michigan include Shazam Casino, Highway Casino, SlotsRoom, Ruby Slots Casino, Las Atlantis Casino, Bet Big Dollar Casino, Blood Moon Casino, Spinfinity, Jumba Bet Casino, Grand Eagle Online Casino, and DogsFortune.
None of these platforms is licensed to operate in Michigan, violating several state gaming laws, including the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and provisions of the Michigan Penal Code.
The MGCB found that these offshore sites accepted payments via credit cards, PayPal, and cryptocurrencies, using various tactics to attract Michigan players. Many sites reportedly imposed excessive wagering requirements and withheld player winnings — practices that are both unethical and illegal under state law.
The board also warned that these offshore sites lack safeguards for responsible gaming and data protection. Users may be at risk for fraud, identity theft, and other serious harm due to the absence of regulatory oversight.
In response, the MGCB issued cease-and-desist letters to the identified operators, giving them 14 days to shut down or face legal action in coordination with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
“The Michigan Gaming Control Board remains fully committed to ensuring a fair, safe, and lawful gaming environment for all Michigan residents,” said MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams. “Our actions today underscore our unwavering dedication to holding illegal operators accountable."
“Shutting down these unlicensed platforms is critical not only to maintaining the integrity of Michigan’s regulated gaming industry but also to protecting residents from predatory practices and unreliable gambling experiences,” he added.
The MGCB is also urging Michigan residents to verify the legitimacy of any online gambling platform before playing. Players can visit the official MGCB website at Michigan.gov/MGCB, which features a list of authorized internet gaming providers, to confirm whether an online casino is licensed.
