Sport Lisboa e Benfica has signed an agreement with 888AFRICA, making the African online betting and gaming company its official sports betting and online games partner in Mozambique and Angola.
888AFRICA, partly owned by evoke plc, operates well-known brands such as 888bet and BetLion across the continent. As part of the deal, the 888bet brand will feature prominently at Benfica’s matches in the Estádio da Luz. The partnership aims to create unique fan experiences, offering competitions and prizes, including signed merchandise and match tickets, as part of efforts to enhance engagement with football enthusiasts in Africa.
Miguel Bento, Commercial and Marketing Director of SL Benfica Group, said: "We are pleased to announce this partnership with 888AFRICA, a prominent company in the betting industry in key markets such as Mozambique and Angola. These regions represent an important part of our global strategy as Benfica continues to expand its reach beyond Europe."
Bento emphasized that the collaboration would bring Benfica closer to its passionate fan base in Africa and create new opportunities for involvement on the continent.
Christopher Coyne, CEO of 888AFRICA, said: "Benfica is one of the most prestigious soccer clubs in the world, with a large fan base in Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa, making it the perfect partner for 888AFRICA."
Coyne also noted the potential for the partnership to boost the company’s growth in Mozambique and Angola, two key markets where Benfica has a strong following. "We look forward to creating unique and engaging Benfica-led content while introducing more fans in Africa to our market-leading betting and gaming propositions," he added.
