Park MGM Las Vegas could reopen on October 1

Park MGM, the last of the MGM Resorts casino properties that remains closed, could open as soon as October 1. 

MGM CEO Bill Hornbuckle told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the opening of the Park MGM depends on whether the recently reopened Mirage “hits its numbers in September.” He added that NoMad Hotel inside the Park MGM could reopen separately.

Hornbuckle said that the Park Theater, which hosted headliners such as Lady Gaga, Cher, Bruno Mars, and Aerosmith, remaining closed presents its own challenge since visitors came to see a show. “We’re going to monitor business through September,” Hornbuckle said. “(Park MGM) is in the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard and would be great to open for obvious reasons. But without Park Theater being open, it’s a challenge. That is the venue that drives that property.”

The resort in the center of the Strip hosts Eataly at the front with its Italian steakhouse Manzo, as well as chef Roy Choi’s Best Friend, Bavette’s Steakhouse & Bar, La La Noodle, Primrose, and NoMad Restaurant and NoMad Bar at NoMad Hotel. Other closed nightlife venues include On The Record, Mama Rabbit, and Juniper Cocktail Lounge. The Crack Shack at the front of the resort reopened on August 1.

All closed in March when Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered all nonessential businesses including casinos to shut down to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Casinos reopened on June 4, but MGM Resorts took a slow approach to bringing back its resorts, only opening the Bellagio, New York-New York, and MGM Grand and its neighboring Signature that day. Other properties, including Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, Vdara, Aria, and Luxor, slowly reopened over the summer, with the Mirage coming back on August 27.
