The director of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is resigning the state, the Department of Finance and Administration, which oversees the lottery, announced Tuesday.

Lottery director Bishop Woosley submitted his resignation, effective Aug. 3, “to pursue other opportunities,” according to a statement by DFA Secretary Larry Walther.

The state lottery was approved by voters in 2008 to provide college scholarships and began selling tickets in 2009.

Woosley has worked for the lottery since its inception, first as chief legal counsel before being named director in 2012 after former director Ernie Passailaigue resigned amid criticism of his management.
