Cleveland's Jack Casino and Thistledown Racino will both reopen at 6 a.m. on Friday, while MGM Northfield opens Saturday at noon. The gaming facilities will operate with a 50 percent capacity limit, among other new policies and procedures.

Casinos and racinos were some of the most recent facilities to get reopening guidelines in Ohio, after clearance from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office that Ohio’s 11 casinos and racinos could reopen as early as June 19.

Cleveland's Jack Casino and Thistledown Racino will both reopen their doors at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 19. MGM Northfield opens Saturday, June 20 at noon.

In reopening, both Jack locations have implemented new policies and procedures in adherence with government mandates and CDC guidelines, as well as additional safety protocols deemed essential by the gaming company, including a 50 percent capacity limit. Poker, coat check, valet, bars, and buffets will not open at this time, according to the casino.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome back our guests and our dedicated team members. We know it is imperative that we provide an environment where everyone can feel safe and comfortable,” said Chad Barnhill, Chief Operating Officer of Jack Entertainment, WKYC reports. “Our commitment to our guests, team members, and all those who visit Jack has driven our decision to go beyond the directed safety measures to ensure we are doing all that we can to make Jack a great place to work and play during these unprecedented times.”

MGM Northfield said it planned an invitation-only event before the opening to the public at noon, June 20. The slots facility will operate at 50% capacity, per guidelines from the Ohio Lottery Commission, MGM said. The slots, officially known as video lottery terminals, will be positioned to allow for “appropriate physical distancing,” MGM said, and there will be no valet parking.

“As with our other resort reopenings, health and safety remain a top priority in every phase of our plan," MGM Resorts International Acting CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle said in the announcement. "We look forward to providing a safe and fun environment for everyone to enjoy our gaming, restaurant and horse racing amenities.”

Employees will wear masks, guests are “strongly encouraged” to wear masks that will be made available for free, and a physical distancing policy will be enforced, MGM said. Harness racing at Northfield Park, without spectators, resumed May 26.
