Interview with Marcel Heutmekers, IGT SVP Gaming for Latin America

"IGT’s SASGE showcase will emphasize our core video content and hardware"

Following the company's participation at G2E, and ahead of its presence at SAGSE, Heutmekers explains some of the solutions within IGT G2E booth, such as its large-format games on the Megatower cabinets, were designed primarily for its customers in North America, hence won't be displayed in Buenos Aires. He says Dynasty ETG product continues to perform well in North America and is poised to launch in other international markets, including LatAm.

How do you assess G2E 2019?

G2E is always an important and productive event for IGT. The portfolio that we showcased in our booth was the strongest that it has been in several years. It was comprised of many market-attuned products that underwent extensive player testing and reinforced our trade show theme “Player-Driven Performance.

IGT’s Advantage systems Player Experience Product Suite received the top honor as the Best Consumer-Service Technology Category from Global Gaming Business magazine's 18th Annual Gaming and Technology Awards at G2E. How relevant is this solution for the Latin American gaming landscape? How is it performing so far within this subcontinent? 

IGT Advantage has long-been our flagship casino management system and the solution continues to gain momentum across our international markets. This also includes Latin America where Advantage’s scalability and modular design have proven to be key drivers of the product’s success for operators. The mobile systems products from the award-winning Advantage ecosystem have not yet been deployed at casinos in the region, however, we believe they can positively transform the player experience and drive operational efficiencies for our customers.

Furthermore, the company's Director of Strategic Accounts, Dan Farnon, was awarded with an Emerging Leaders of Gaming 40 under 40 Award from The Innovation Group and Global Gaming Business magazine at G2E. What young IGT executive is emerging as a leader or role model in Latin America? Why?

We have exceptional talent and leadership throughout all parts and levels of our organization in Latin America. Our sales, marketing, operations and product leaders bring tremendous insight and experience to IGT and our customers. To be considered a role model at IGT, one has to clearly demonstrate the ability to create and maintain meaningful relationships and deliver results, while contributing new ideas and helping our customers achieve their goals.

At SAGSE, are you going to exhibit some of the novelties that you have revealed at G2E such as PeakBarTop, Jeopardy!, $25.000 Pyramid and MegaTower Universal? How long will these products take to be marketed in Latin America?

IGT’s SASGE showcase will emphasize our core video content and hardware. We believe we have a strong portfolio across the segment and look forward to sharing those innovations with our customers from throughout Latin America. Some of the solutions within our G2E booth, such as our large-format games on the Megatower cabinets, were designed primarily for our customers in North America and we do not have plans to bring those games to Latin America at this time.

Is there any room for IGT in the Latin America's ETG market? How much can the Dynasty portfolio grow here?

IGT is excited about the prospect of bringing our Dynasty ETG product to our customers throughout Latin America. The product continues to perform well in North America and is poised to launch in other international markets. Over the last 18 months, IGT has dedicated significant time and resources to expanding our content portfolio and differentiating our offering through a diverse library of side bets for baccarat, roulette and blackjack.

Three important markets in Latin America are going through socio-political crises. How do you keep the business afloat under these terms? How do you visualise Perú, Chile and Argentina short and midterm future?

Like many of our customers, IGT has successfully navigated through changing political and economic climates all over the world. Although such conditions can present their challenges, IGT remains committed to helping our customers achieve their objectives and keep their players entertained by offering best-in-class content and innovative solutions.
