Illinois: casino proposals’ public hearing to be held in City of Rockford

A public hearing on casino proposals for the City of Rockford will be open to the public with doors opening at 5 p.m.

The Illinois government announced it was granting six new casino licenses as part of the gambling expansion bill signed in May.

Each applicant will have 45 minutes to make a formal presentation of its casino proposal, 13 WREX reports.

After the presentations, audience members are welcome to ask questions of the applicants, the City and its consultants.

The Illinois Gaming Act requires that the City conduct a public hearing on the factors to be certified by the City and other details of the proposed casino.

The City also needs to certify the following:

• the Applicant has negotiated with the City in good faith
• the Applicant and the City have mutually agreed on the permanent location of the casino
• the Applicant and the City have mutually agreed on the temporary location of the casino
• the Applicant and the City have mutually agreed on the percentage of revenues that will be shared with the City
• the Applicant and the City have mutually agreed on any zoning, licensing, public health, or other issues that are within the jurisdiction of the municipality or county
• the City Council has passed a resolution or ordinance in support of the casino
