Brazil Gaming Congress confirms international key speakers

Not long to go until we open the doors to BgC 2018, and organizers Clarion Gaming are delighted to announce our International Keynote speakers for Day 1 - 23 April 2018.

Hear from the experts themselves on setting, and achieving, policy goals for gambling regulation and how best to ensure that regulation protects consumers and drives tax revenue. As confirmed this week, the event will feature two prominent figures within the industry, with both technical and legislative know-how: Becky Harris, Chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and William P. Coley, II Senator for Ohio Senate.

International Legislators’ Agenda brings international gaming experts to Brasilia

Taking place after BgC in the Chamber of Deputies in Brasilia, this half-day event on April 26, open to Brazilian policy-makers, deputies, senators and government representatives, is a new unique initiative aimed at educating legislators on challenges and opportunities in the legislation and regulation of gambling.

Organised together with the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, and in partnership with Parliament Front in Defense of Tourism of the National Congress, International Legislators’ Agenda will feature international policy-makers as expert speakers who will share their best practice with a group of Brazilian legislators involved in the current gambling debate in the country.

International Legislators’ Agenda (ILA) takes place on 26 April in Brasilia, Brazil, alongside Brazilian Gaming Congress on 22-24 April in São Paulo.

Themes to be covered:

• Gaming & politics – changing attitudes towards gambling regulation and overcoming consumers’/electorate’s concerns around the authorization of gambling
• Policy goals of regulation – setting your objectives to shape the legislation and regulation
• Deciding the scope of regulation: casino, IR, online, land-based, sports betting etc. Understanding how different verticals and channels impact on your policy goals, job creation and economic growth; what kind of tax revenue and investment they generate, and what the timelines are for implementation and ROI
• Gaming & state revenue – what revenue can gambling regulation generate to the state and how to use it back for the benefit of the society, to grow local economy and help communities
• Gaming & taxation – evaluating and setting appropriate taxation levels to achieve budget goals and drive illegal gambling out
• Gaming & consumer protection – creating a gambling regulatory scheme that protects the consumer and offers a framework for resolving disputes, seek help if needed and provides financial safeguards
• Responsible and Problem Gambling – understanding the interlink, both negative and positive, between gambling regulation and the levels of problem gambling. Using regulatory framework to identify ‘at-risk’ gamblers, prevent the rise in gambling addiction and finance structures to deal with problem gamblers
