Ahead of the November gubernatorial election in Georgia, all four of GOP candidates pledged to oppose any attempts to legalize casino gambling in the state during a meeting of the Republican Party on Saturday in Milledgeville.

Hopefuls Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, former Sen. Hunter Hill, Sen. Michael Williams, and Secretary of State Brian Kemp shared the stage to express their views on different issues closing ranks behind anti-gambling calls.

They said they will oppose any plans seeking the amendments of the state Constitution which, if approved, would pave the way for the construction of two casino resorts in Georgia.

Back in 2017, legislators pushed to secure a casino bill in the state Senate but efforts failed with Republicans –which hold the majority in the state Legislature– blocking the gambling debate.

While Republican lawmakers say gambling lead to a rise in divorce and crime rates, pro-legalization advocates affirm the casino industry in Georgia could be worth more than USD 600 million.
