Swedish regulator Lotteriinspektionen has revealed that gambling revenue during the first half of 2017 was up year-on-year.

The gaming authority said overall turnover was up 3% to SEK 11B (€1.16B/$1.38B), compared to the same period last year.

According to the report, Svenska Spel continues to lead the Swedish market. However, the state-owned operator experienced a 2% year-on-year decline in turnover, despite a 12% hike in online revenue.

Offshore-licensed companies generated a combined SEK 2.65B in online gaming revenue, a figure that represents a 17% increase on the total collected by such operators in the same period last year, as more Swedish players chose offshore firms for online gambling activities.

A recent Mediavision survey shows that 61% of all new online gambling accounts in the past year have been registered to offshore-licensed firms.
