The casino giant said its Springfield property is on track to open in about 14 months.

The company has invested $5.5 million to make improvements to roads, sidewalks and traffic signals.

Residents have been dealing with extra traffic in the south end, and excitement is building for the 2018 grand opening.

MGM is currently framing interior walls in the hotel and casino.

Brian Packer, the vice president of Construction/Development, told the commissioners the emphasis this quarter was to prepare the buildings under construction for winter. The plan is to seal the buildings with outer walls in order to spend the winter working on the interior.

At this time, MGM is looking for a vendor to run the movie theater that will be part of the casino complex. The Gaming Commission will be meeting in Springfield in September to see the progress themselves.
