According to the Australian website report, Melbourne-based O’Connor was on a short visit to the mainland when he was detained along with other 18 casino employees.
Three of those detained were released on bail a month after the arrests, while the remaining 16 all pleaded guilty to gambling crimes and were fined a total of $1.67 million, which Crown said it would pay for its employees.
The staff were also sentenced to nine and 10-month jail terms, with time already spent in detention taken into account.
The arrests last October roiled the Melbourne-based company controlled by billionaire James Packer, and highlighted the fine line foreign casinos walk in courting customers from mainland China, where it’s illegal to gamble or promote gaming.
O’Connor was taken from Shanghai No. 1 Detention Center, the main holding jail for foreigners, directly to the airport.
