Approval for new Missoula casino faces resistance
Casinos are in gas stations and restaurants. They’re even across the street from and right next door to one another.
And soon, a new casino will let the slots roll in the same building as Outback Steakhouse on North Reserve.
The Missoula City Council passed a motion to allow that building to be used as a tavern and casino, citing state law surrounding the dispersal of liquor licenses.
Although councilwoman Michelle Cares supported the measure, she thinks the number of casinos in town may be getting too high.
"It's an addiction, often, gambling. And there are definitely people who can gamble who are not addicted, who are not in danger of spending their last paycheck,” Cares said. “But there are also people who have that struggle."
Cares voted in favor of the casino despite her personal objections, explaining that she will vote with the law not her emotions on the issue.
