Philippines moves to end war against iGaming
After putting PhilWeb, a top gaming technology provider based in the Philippines, through the ringer, the country has finally decided to stop a war against iGambling.
DZMM, a radio news chann, reported that PAGCOR is considering allowing more players to take part in the online gaming industry. This is a sign that the worst part of the war against online gambling is finally over for operators. The report shows Ignacio stating that the government will be enforcing the gambling rules of the Philippines in a strict manner, opening up to more people, but under very stringent measures.
One rule will cover the location of eGaming cafes in the country. Parlors will have to be at least 200 meters away from schools and churches, as the President Rodrigo Duterte ordered previously. This rule will have to be followed. From his very first day in office, Duterte declared that online gambling has to stop and PAGCOR followed up his orders by shutting down operations of PhilWeb Corp cafes by not renewing their gaming license. PAGCOR also put a stop to Leisure and Resorts World operations of e-games and online bingo.
PhilWeb has been busy working on a business plan to create a text-based lottery system entitled PAGCOR Text Bonanza to try and bring in new revenues. However, PAGCOR rejected the plan based on the position of Duterte on online gambling.
