In a historic decision, one with implications for the state's casino industry, the U.S. Department of the Interior has approved an initial reservation for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, including 152 acres in Taunton for an Indian casino, according to a statement from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The Mashpee will be allowed to build a full Class III casino under federal law that allows tribes to have any kind of gambling on their lands that is allowed in the state.

According to tribal chairman Cedric Cromwell, the Mashpee will build a $50m casino.
