To help allay public concerns about the impact such gambling adverts have on youngsters watching live football on television. The move comes after the English Premier League (EPL) top-tier club football competition outlined its own concerns about betting and the amount of products that were being promoted by operators.
The EPL has called on regulators to control in-play betting because of fears it may lead to corrupt behaviour
However, any such move may come into conflict with a partnership that William Hill has with the English Football Association (FA) governing body, with the operator sponsoring the FA Cup domestic club competition.
The EPL and the FA declined to comment on the new voluntary advertising ban.
Under the plans, the four companies will sign up to a set of rules and establish a watchdog in order to oversee the operators’ pledge to fund a new advertising campaign on responsible gambling and to ensure that television advertising carries more responsible gambling.
