In addition to the 30,000 jobs supported by casinos and related amenities like hotels, non-gaming operations such as Indian-run spas and golf courses, they also support an additional 8,200 jobs statewide, according to the report, which was conducted by Beacon Economics.
From 2009 to 2010, tribal government gaming operations generated US$ 6.9 billion in revenue. The study sampled 17 gaming tribes across California, or nearly one third of all tribal government operations statewide. It included a variety of casinos in rural and urban markets with varying amenities.
Tribal gaming workers earn an average salary of US$ 29,600, above average for workers in similar fields, said the report. Many of these jobs go to low-skill workers. In 2012, gaming operations generated over US$ 505 million in tax revenue.
The report asserts that casinos and related amenities keep money in California that would otherwise travel to Nevada and other states.
