The northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein introduced a new licensing regime in early-December and The Betway Group has now joined fellow operators including Reel Germany, Ladbrokes International, 888 Germany and Bet-At-Home Internet in receiving authorisation to accept local punters.
Operators licensed by Schleswig-Holstein must fulfil numerous stipulations designed to prevent problem gambling such as the prohibition of online poker bots alongside the introduction of hourly ‘reality checks’ designed to inform customers of their win/loss ratios. Authorised firms must have also demonstrated the security of their information technology infrastructures and player data systems.
For its part, The Betway Group stated that Schleswig-Holstein is the fifth jurisdiction in which it is licensed following previous approvals from Malta, Spain, Denmark and Italy.
“We are delighted to become one of the first online operators to be licensed in Schleswig-Holstein,” said Richard Akitt, CEO for The Betway Group, which was established in 2006 and has offices in London, Guernsey, Stockholm and Cape Town alongside its headquarters in Malta.
“Not only does it represent our position as a leader in the industry but it demonstrates the Group’s commitment to rapid expansion of the business across continental Europe. “Over a million customers worldwide are enjoying our leading slots and casino games and we’re thrilled that German players will now be able to join them,” he concluded.
