Therefore a number of regulations have been adopted in this field, primarily aiming at the prevention of gambling addiction, the protection of young and other vulnerable people and the prevention of money laundering and funding of terrorism.
Recognising an even more complex legal basis in the area of marketing, the Danish Consumer Ombudsman and the Danish Gambling Authority has commenced cooperation. Above all, greater priority to the sharing of information with citizens and entities with regard to Danish regulation and guidelines and to ensure the mutual exchange of information between the authorities shall be the aim of this cooperation.
The Danish Consumer Ombudsman, Henrik Øe states: “In my opinion, cooperation with the Danish Gambling Authority brings potential with regard to ensuring increased consumer protection. Thus, through such working relationship we will be able to strengthen the knowledge level in this particular field of marketing. Furthermore, cooperating with the Danish Gambling Authority will improve the chances of an early and more efficient intervention regarding entities which are not complying with Danish regulations”.
Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, Birgitte Sand states: ”One of the most important tasks of the Danish Gambling Authority is to ensure that corporations which have received a licence to provide gambling activities in Denmark or wish to receive such a license have the best possible knowledge of and thus, the best qualifications to comply with Danish legislation. Especially, this is in evidence regarding to the marketing of games in Denmark and measures taken in this connection. Therefore, the Danish Gambling Authority is looking forward to cooperating with the Danish Consumer Ombudsman”.
Furthermore, in order to create a safe betting and online casino gambling environment, the Danish Gambling Authority has initiated a labelling scheme, which is intended to help players in providing an overview of which gambling providers have received a license from the Danish Gambling Authority.
Danish gambling regulations in brief: Cooperation between the Danish Consumer Ombudsman and the Danish Gambling Authority regarding surveillance of the marketing of gambling activities has been presupposed in the legislative history of the Danish Gambling Act. Thus, such cooperation has been initiated between the Danish Consumer Ombudsman and the Danish Gambling Authority, the aim of which shall primarily be the mutual briefing and exchange of information between the authorities mentioned.
