According to the executive secretary of the Gaming Control Board of the MEF, Giselle Brea, a total of 15 full casinos, 11,621 slot machines, and 268 tables are currently operating in Panama.
Brea said that, between Jan. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2011, casinos are obligated to pay 12.5 % of their gross monthly income to the MEF. Beginning on Jan. 1, 2012, they will be required to pay 15 %.
Moreover, the "A" category slot machine rooms pay 16 % of their gross income on a monthly basis, which beginning on Jan. 1, 2012, will increase to 19 %, and beginning Jan. 1, 2014, will spike to 22 %, the official explained.
