A series of advantages for national and international cruises were asked urgently by Armadores Navieros del Sur, (ARMASUR), after an intense meeting held in Valparaíso with the Commission of Tourism of the Chamber of Representatives, headed by legislator Carlos Recondo.

In the same meeting, it was agreed the urgent request to the President of the Republic, the Ministries of Economy, Transport and Defense, demanding the conclusion of the prohibition for national and foreign cruises to operate casinos when they navigate territorial waters.

According to representative Recondo, it will damage tourism, because, in the case of ocean liners, that’s the reason why they omit more landfalls in Chile, expecting the request to have a good response by the government.

In the same occasion, it was established that, each advantage achieved has to be homologated to the industry of national cruises, so it will exist a balance in these actions.

The urgency of the request was revealed last Wednesday afternoon, when it was sent to President Piñera, who had previously stated his approval so the government may start, as soon as possible, the papers to change the law and allow the casino operation in cruises and other benefits associated.
